Extra Crispy is what you order when they run out of Original Recipe

I saw that commercial last night. I think it’s stupid.

This whole KFC campaign is weird to me. More to the point, it does not make me want fried chicken any more than I normally do.

Colonel Sanders on KFC

“My God, that gravy is horrible. They buy tap water for 15 to 20 cents a thousand gallons and then they mix it with flour and starch and end up with pure wallpaper paste. And I know wallpaper paste, by God, because I’ve seen my mother make it. ... There’s no nutrition in it and they ought not to be allowed to sell it. ... crispy recipe is nothing in the world but a damn fried doughball stuck on some chicken.”

Seriously...he said this.

I’ll be honest here, I actually love the KFC many-Colonels ads. Mostly because I want to see who the next one is whenever I see the new one.

Need Idris Elba next. Oh, or Dikembe Mutombo!

You want somebody else’s chicken?

Kinja'd!!!

No no no! Not today!

It would be interesting to know if these commercials have increased their sales.

If I remember right he was very particular about his gravy and used to tour franchises to make sure they were doing it right, but that was when he still had some influence.

I wonder how long they’ll keep this up. I think pretty much all fast food ads that emphasize people more than food are silly.

I guess they’ll try anything and everything to boost their sales.

I never thought of it that way, but you’re right.

Generating buzz is a key thing for advertising, that is where the whole “all publicity is good publicity” comes from (or however it goes). I spend a few hundred on sponsorships every month for my company knowing that no business will ever directly come from it. But those people will tell other people who may need our help.

That does make sense.
